Job Overview:
St John Paul II Catholic High School is seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Performing Arts Teacher to join our vibrant arts department. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching courses in drama, theater, music, and dance, fostering students' creativity and passion for the performing arts. The Performing Arts Teacher will also direct school productions, collaborate with colleagues on interdisciplinary projects, and contribute to a dynamic and inclusive arts program.
Responsibilities:
Instruction
- Develop and deliver engaging lesson plans in drama, theater, music, and dance that cater to a range of student abilities and interests.
- Foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages student participation and creativity.
- Utilize a variety of teaching methods and assessment tools to evaluate student performance and growth.
- Integrate technology and innovative practices into the performing arts curriculum.
Program Development
- Plan and direct school performances, including plays, musicals, concerts, and dance recitals.
- Collaborate with other faculty members to create interdisciplinary projects and events.
- Support and develop extracurricular activities related to the performing arts, such as drama clubs, music ensembles, and dance teams.
- Assist in the maintenance and organization of performance spaces and equipment.
Student Engagement
- Inspire students to develop their talents and pursue their interests in the performing arts.
- Provide individualized support and mentorship to students, helping them to set and achieve personal and academic goals.
- Encourage student participation in local, regional, and national performing arts competitions and events.
Professional Responsibilities
- Participate in ongoing professional development to stay current with best practices in performing arts education.
- Attend and contribute to faculty meetings, school events, and professional learning communities.
- Communicate regularly with students, parents, and colleagues to support student success and program development.
- Uphold school policies and procedures, maintaining high standards of professionalism and ethical behavior.
Qualifications
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Performing Arts, Theater, Music Education, Dance, or a related field required; Master’s degree preferred.
- Valid teaching certification in Performing Arts or related field preferred.
- Minimum of 3 years of teaching experience in performing arts at the secondary level preferred.
- Demonstrated experience in directing school productions and managing performing arts programs.
Skills and Competencies
- Strong knowledge of performing arts disciplines, including drama, theater, music, and dance.
- Excellent classroom management skills and the ability to engage and inspire students.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, parents, and colleagues.
- Organizational skills and attention to detail, particularly in planning and executing performances and events.
- Commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment for all students.
- Proficiency in using educational technology and software relevant to performing arts instruction.
