Job Overview:
We are seeking an Assistant to the Summer Academy Director to support the director in the successful execution of the St. John's College Summer Academy program. The St. John's College Summer Academy is a program that offers high school students an opportunity to study and live on campus for three weeks, immersing themselves in a liberal arts curriculum as well as a variety of extracurricular activities. The main responsibilities of this role will be to look after Summer Academy students afterhours and on weekends, and to provide support to the student staff who oversee the students' daily activities. The successful candidate will be responsible for supervising and ensuring the safety and well-being of the students during these times.
Dates of Service: The Assistant to the Summer Academy Director will work approximately 5hrs/week from June 9 – June 15, and approximately 25hrs/week from June 16th – July 12th.
Position Details: This position is part-time, requiring 25 hours per week, and pays $20 per hour. Housing is provided on campus. A full meal plan at the campus dining hall is also provided from June 15th through July 12th.
Key Responsibilities:
•Provide support to the Summer Academy Director in the execution of the St. John's College Summer Academy program
•Collaborate closely with the Summer Academy Coordinators and RAs to ensure smooth execution of scheduled activities
•Be responsible for looking after St. John's College Summer Academy students afterhours and on weekends
•Address non-emergency setbacks regarding event execution
•Supervise students during designated times and ensure their safety and well-being
•Assist the RAs and Coordinators in providing guidance and support to the students
•Take lead on ensuring smooth execution of activities to engage St. John's College Summer Academy students during afterhours and weekends
•Maintain open communication with the Summer Academy Director, Coordinators, and other staff members regarding any issues or concerns that arise
•Attend meetings and training sessions as required
•Perform other duties as assigned by the Summer Academy Director
Qualifications:
•Bachelor's degree
•Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
•Strong organizational and time management skills
•Ability to work independently and as part of a team
•Strong problem-solving skills and ability to handle difficult situations
•Experience working with children and/or youth in an educational or extracurricular setting is strongly preferred
•A familiarity with the St. John’s College academic program is strongly preferred
Working Conditions:
This is a temporary position that will require availability during afterhours and on weekends, including non-emergency on-call duties. The assistant will work closely with the Summer Academy Director, RAs, and other staff members to ensure the smooth operation of the St. John's College Summer Academy program. The assistant may be required to work in various indoor and outdoor environments. This is a residential position. Housing will be provided from June 9 until July 12.
