Title: ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR OF ADMISSIONS FOR PROSPECTIVE STUDENT ENGAGEMENT
Reports To: ASSISTANT VICE PRESIDENT OF ENROLLMENT/DIRECTOR OF ADMISSIONS
DUTIES: The Associate Director of Admissions for Prospective Student Engagement promotes St. John's College, our two campuses in Annapolis, Maryland, and Santa Fe, New Mexico, and our distinctive great books curriculum among prospective undergraduate students. The ultimate goal of the admissions team, including the Associate Director, is to encourage an increasing number of intellectually curious and talented prospective students, from diverse backgrounds, to apply and enroll at St. John's.
The Associate Director is a senior member of the Admissions Office. The Associate Director collaborates with the Assistant Vice President and Vice President of Enrollment on policy and practices; implements recruitment strategies; manages and travels within an assigned territory; manages inquiries and the full application process for prospective students; builds relationships with prospective students, families, and schools; supervises members of the admissions team; represents the Admissions Office and college at professional functions; and oversees special projects, including the primary focus of yield of admitted students and alumni volunteers for admissions. The Associate Director is based on the Santa Fe campus but is part of an energetic college-wide team with colleagues on campus in Annapolis and Santa Fe.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Supervise staff members and support the senior leadership in the office in the recruitment of students and application management to ensure both campuses meet enrollment goals.
- Territory management, including relationship building with schools, cultivating new leads, and travel within assigned territory.
- Special projects, which includes event management, alumni volunteer coordination, and coordinating all yield efforts.
- Ongoing professional and leadership development.
- Other duties as assigned.

- Must have extremely strong writing, communication, and interpersonal skills, be calm under pressure, be collaborative by nature, be attentive to detail, be successful at meeting deadlines and have a history of demonstrating sound judgment, tact and discretion.
- Be an articulate, fluent, and passionate advocate for the strengths of a liberal arts education at St. John’s College, including the curriculum, the classroom experience, the unique attributes of each campus, extracurricular life, residential life, and future career success.
- Will need minimal supervision and be a strong leader, a creative and strategic thinker and be motivated to exceed goals.
- Be conversant on federal and institutional financial aid policies and procedures.
- Must be able to travel independently, with night and weekend work as needed.
- Must work collaboratively and coordinate with colleagues on both the Santa Fe and Annapolis campuses. Must contribute to making St. John’s a diverse and equitable community for staff members, faculty, and students.
KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:
- A minimum of five years professional experience in admissions or related filed, plus experience as a supervisor is required; additional experience is preferred. Experience with special student populations strongly preferred.
- BA/BS degree required, MA/MS preferred.
- A significant level of trust and diplomacy is required, in addition high quality customer service. Work involves extensive personal contact with others, which can at times be of a personal or sensitive nature. Work involves motivating or influencing others and providing a strong sense of leadership. Outside contacts are important, as fostering sound relationships with other entities (high schools and/or individuals) is necessary and often requires the ability to influence and/or sell ideas or services to others.
- Position requires proficiency in Microsoft Office applications. Strong preference for student database and CRM tools, including Slate, Jenzabar, and others. Must be comfortable learning new technical skills as needed.
