Description of Role: As a member of the Campus Facilities Department, this position is to help maintain a safe and clean campus for St. John's College students, faculty, staff, and visitors. St. John's College 36-acre campus includes 23 buildings.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:
- Opening and closing of buildings
- Maintaining HVAC systems
- Maintaining buildings and residences to include minor plumbing, electrical, carpentry and painting
- Maintaining grounds to include picking up trash, emptying trash receptacles, sweeping sidewalks, and cleaning entryway glasses
- Delivering packages off campus
- Cleaning and filling vehicles with gas and other fluids
- Cleaning classrooms in academic buildings each morning
- Setting-up and facilitating events such as: Homecoming Weekend, Alumni Weekend, Open House, Productions and Graduation
- Seasonal Duties to include:
- Cleaning gutters and downspouts
- Blowing and raking leaves
- Maintaining flower beds, bushes, and trees
- Removing snow and salting walkways
Qualifications:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. - High school diploma or equivalent required
- Minimum of one year of commercial experience or demonstrated basic knowledge in the operation and maintenance of commercial groundskeeping equipment
- Ability to work safely and reliably with minimum of supervision
- Ability to push, pull, lift, and carry up to 50 lbs. throughout an 8-hour shift
- Ability to work outdoors in varied weather condition, such as heat, cold, rain, snow and slippery conditions
- Ability to work on uneven surfaces
- Possess a valid driver’s license and good driving record as determined by college policy and have the ability to operate utility vehicles, including driving a pickup truck
- Demonstrated ability to professionally assist and interact with culturally diverse students, faculty, staff, and the public
