What are the responsibilities and job description for the Classroom Assistant & Weekend RA position at St John's College?
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The CAWRA will be paired with one class and tutor for each subject (Seminar, Lab/Math/Rhetoric, Language), and will be preparing for/attending each of the meetings for that subject during the week (all classes meet four times during the week with the exception of Seminar, which only meets three times). The CAWRA will read all class materials, prepare for and attend their assigned classes during the week, and assist the tutor in facilitating a productive conversation during class periods. The CAWRA will model a mature classroom presence.
The CAWRA will be an undergraduate student who, without participating too frequently, models what it looks like to engage in the activity of the St. John’s classroom.
All necessary materials will be provided by the Summer Academy Director. The CAWRA will transition into a Summer Academy Resident Assistant role during the weekends to supervise the few stayovers that we will have (usually not more than 10 students, supervised by four CAWRAs). The list of duties for Summer Academy Resident Assistants include, but are not limited to, the following: upholding the rules of residence; supervising small groups; promoting communication among students and between students and college staff; facilitating small-group recreational activities on campus; preserving safety of students. Food, lodging, and any activity fees will be covered for CAWRAs during the Summer Academy sessions.
