JOB DESCRIPTION FOR NURSERY ASSISTANT
JOB TITLE Nursery Assistant
REPORTS TO Nursery Director
HOURS/WEEK 5-9 hours per week
Classification Part-time, Non-Exempt
Compensation $16/hour
St. John’s seeks a part-time Nursery Assistant who will work with other caregivers in providing childcare in a caring Christian atmosphere. St. John’s nursery serves children from birth to 5 years of age. The Nursery Assistant helps to implement early childhood curriculum, manage facilities, and work proactively with parents to ensure children are well cared for in the nursery.
QUALIFICATIONS
§ A happy, warm, energetic, and welcoming demeanor
§ A love and enthusiasm for small children
§ Ability to communicate and teach short Sunday School lessons
§ Certification in CPR and First Aid Training
§ Completion of The Episcopal Diocese of Dallas’ Awareness Training Seminar on Sexual Abuse
§ Ability to repetitively lift a minimum of 25 pounds
§ Work church wide special events as needed
§ Work a regular weekly schedule as needed
§ Able to perform physical activities that require moving one's whole body, such as in climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, where the activities often also require considerable use of the arms and legs, and able to lift up to 30 pounds without assistance
§ Prior experience caring for infants and young children preferred
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
§ Serve on scheduled Sundays from 7:30 am to 12:30 pm for the principle church services.
§ Provide nursery coverage for seasonal midweek events (3 Advent Wednesday programs in early December; 5 Fridays in Lent) and Church Holidays that fall midweek (Christmas Eve, Easter)
§ Provide nursery coverage for quarterly Parents Night Out/Game Nights on Friday nights
§ Provide nursery coverage for other all-church events as they occur (Annual Parish Picnic, Tasty Wine and Ugly Art nights, etc.)
§ Assist the Nursery Director in teaching Bible lessons for the 2 to 5-year-olds, utilizing a curriculum provided by the church
§ Supervise crafts and play time; Participate or instruct children in games
§ play with children and keep them safe
§ Perform sanitation duties in classroom, such as cleaning and sanitizing toys, cribs, swings, etc.
§ Give instruction to children regarding behavior and safety
§ Provide prompt and professional care for children’s physical, emotional and social needs, according to the developmental level of the child
§ Recommend or initiate measures to control behavior in children
§ Read to children, and teach simple painting, drawing, handwork, and songs
