What are the responsibilities and job description for the Technology Specialist position at St. John's Lutheran Church?
Position Summary: The Technology Specialist provides oversight and troubleshooting for connections and performance of the database, local network, and technology needs of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Des Moines. Working under the supervision of the Senior Pastor and with the support of other staff and related ministry teams, the Technology Specialist furthers St. John’s purpose and vision by ensuring we are connected through technology in ways that encourage healthy and growing personal relationships that benefit our congregation and community.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
- Gains and maintains expertise with our church management system, serving as the contact person for infrastructure support
- Trains staff and congregational members on how to install and use the church management system on phones, tablets and computers
- Resolves church management system user issues and concerns and escalates accordingly
- Ensure integrity of church management system data, ensuring regular backups are performed
- Manages current local network, and assists with transitioning to a cloud-based network in the coming year
- Manages the technology needs of existing staff
- Onboards new staff with their technology needs including hardware, software, account creation and network access
- Attends weekly staff meetings
- Other duties as assigned
INTERACTIONS
- Reports to the Senior Pastor
- Collaborates with the Communications Manager in the creation and implementation of database signup forms used internally and on the St. John’s website
- Collaborates with the Office Specialist to ensure the church management member information and groups are well maintained
- Backs up the Office Coordinator and office volunteers to enter data when needed
- Networks with the Financial Specialist to ensure member records integrate with member giving history in our financial software
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES
- Proficient in Microsoft Office 365 licensing, credentialing, and applications, particularly Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook.
- Knowledge of maintaining both local and cloud-based networks
- Experience working with Wireless Access Points in a medium-sized business environment
- Effective writing, organizational, presentation, training and communication skills
- Ability to work in a team environment and achieve goals for short- and long-term projects.
QUALIFICATIONS
- B.S. or B.A. degree in related technology field or equivalent experience preferred
- Highly relatable with others with an ability to quickly build rapport
- Experience working in a church or non-profit organization is highly desirable
- Previous experience with project management in a team setting a plus

Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $23.00 - $25.00 per hour
Expected hours: 15 – 20 per week
