Qualifications
St. John’s School seeks a talented and knowledgeable full-time Middle School Nurse to start August 2025. In addition to relevant experience and a strong pediatric background, successful candidates must demonstrate a passion for working with middle school-aged students and a commitment to furthering the School’s mission, including its strategic initiatives on community and inclusion.
Primary Responsibilities
- Provide direct care to students for injuries, acute illness, and chronic health conditions
- Administer medications and treatments according to physician orders and school policy
- Identify community health concerns in accordance with established school health protocols
- Establish and maintain an accurate clinic inventory, including storage and tracking process for all medication and supplies handled within the Clinical Services Department
- Maintain complete, accurate, and timely student records
- Communicate effectively with clinical team, school administration, parents/guardians, and health care providers
- Review medical reports and interpret them for appropriate administrative action, consulting with the Director of Clinical Services as necessary
- Conduct health screenings (e.g., vision, hearing, scoliosis) and complete state-required reports annually
- Provide training for staff on health-related topics, including medication administration, seizure response, and epi-pen use
- Participate in grade-level experiential overnight school trips each year
Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing
- Active Registered Nurse license, issued by the Texas State Board of Nursing
- Minimum three years of nursing experience, school nursing and pediatric experience preferred.
- Current certification in First Aid, CPR, and AED Usage
- Strong assessment skills and the ability to make sound clinical decisions under pressure
- Knowledge of childhood illnesses, immunization requirements, and health screening
- Ability to work independently while collaborating with a multidisciplinary school team
- Proficiency in documenting care and using electronic health records or school-based health systems
