St John’s School is looking for passionate educators to join our community who know how to support middle school students and are committed to teaching the whole child. The ideal English candidate is knowledgeable about a wide range of literature including young adult literature and has experience with varied pedagogical and assessment practices. We seek teachers who have the flexibility to teach any middle school English course and value working in a highly collaborative teaching and learning environment. Candidates should be comfortable working with students with a wide range of academic capabilities and be open to their own continued professional growth. We seek individuals who support the school’s Mission and its Precepts and Principles.
Responsibilities include teaching a full-time course load of 4 sections; serving as an advisor to a group of 12-13 students, working as a member of a grade-level team, attending faculty meetings, and other shared middle school responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities:
- Teach a course load of 4 sections of an MS English course
- Work as a collaborative member of a grade-level and departmental team.
- Serve as an advisor to 12-13 students annually (providing academic support and integrating SEL lessons and other shared team goals)
- Participate in a weeklong, grade-level overnight trip annually
- Engage in shared middle school responsibilities and duties as assigned including DaVinci activity periods.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in English or related field. Masters degree preferred.
- Minimum 3 years of prior, relevant classroom teaching experience teaching middle school students.
- Proven ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues.
- An understanding and commitment to cultural competency and how to support a diverse student population of learners.
