What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director of Music position at St John's United Church of Christ?
St. John’s United Church of Christ, in Richmond VA, is seeking a faithful and joyful part-time Director of Music to enrich our worship and ministry. The ideal candidate will be skilled in playing keyboard, as well as leading our choir. The Director of Music will work with the Minister and Worship and Music Committee to create engaging worship experiences for our congregation. St John’s honors our rich faith traditions but also welcomes new and different music genres.
Position Responsibilities:
Collaborate with the minister and lay leaders to create weekly worship services
Provide keyboard music for all worship services (Sunday mornings, seasonal and special services)
Facilitate the congregation in singing and worshiping through music, including hymns, special music, preludes, postludes, responses, etc.
Has the right of first refusal to play for memorial services/funerals/weddings
Arrange for qualified substitute pianist when absent from church services
Select choral music and lead the choir for 2 weeknight rehearsals and 2 Sunday services a month in addition to high holy days
Maintain music supplies and oversee maintenance of instruments and equipment.
St. John’s has one service on Sunday mornings at 10:30 a.m. The choir has approximately 10 members who rehearse two evenings a month and the two Sunday mornings they perform during the service.
Qualifications include keyboard proficiency, experience providing music/worship within a church environment, experience leading an adult choir, and a love of music, worship and God. This is a part-time, year-round position.

Pay: $12,000.00 - $15,000.00 per year
