What are the responsibilities and job description for the Lifeguard Supervisor position at St. John The Baptist Parish Government?
DUTIES: Provides supervision for lifeguards; monitors activities at pool; and provides lifesaving skills during emergency matters at pool by functioning as a lifeguard. Participates in the scheduling of shifts and assigning lifeguard duties.
- Gives instructions in pool operating procedures, rules, safety practices, maintenance, and related matters
- Ensures the safety of facility’s patrons and lifeguard teams
- Supervises the daily facility safety inspections
- Coordinates lifeguard shifts
- Ensures facility equipment is property cared for and maintained
- Communicates issues to Department management
- Performs basic lifeguarding duties, serving as lead lifeguard
- Regularly treat the pool with the correct amount of chemicals
- Closely monitoring weather reports and conditions to make sure patrons remain safe
- Maintaining a clean pool environment
- Other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS: Must be:
- At least fifteen (18) years old at time of hire,
- Physically fit and in good general health,
- Able to swim 300 yards continuously, swim 20 yards then surface dive 7-10 feet to retrieve 10-pound object then return to surface within 100 seconds, tread water (legs only) for 2 minutes,
- Thorough knowledge and application of lifeguarding surveillance and rescue techniques,
- Ability to instruct, assign, supervise, and evaluate lifeguards in the performance of their duties
- Ability to identify hazards and unsafe practices and to make suitable recommendations for minimizing or eliminating those hazards, and
- Able to make sound decisions within the scope of authority with minimal supervision
Must have at least 3 seasons of lifeguarding experience. Will be required to complete lifeguard certification course or provide proof of current lifeguard certification through American Red Cross or other accredited certifying agency.
This position is not part of the St. John the Baptist Parish classified system nor eligible for benefits, except as required by law.
