St. Johns County Board of County Commissioners is seeking a EMS Billing Manager for our well-established Fire Rescue Department whose headquarters are located in beautiful St. Augustine, Florida.

The St. Johns County Fire Rescue Administrative Division is responsible for the support of the operations and management of Fire Rescue facilities and equipment.
Employees work in a team-oriented environment in a variety of situations with two primary goals in mind: to provide a fire safe environment for our citizens and visitors and to provide quality customer service while working to support Fire Rescue.
The newly selected EMS Billing Manager will be responsible for conducting billing, scheduling, tracking projects, working with multiple divisions, communicating with citizens, and work as a part of Fire Rescue. This work is often completed by assignment without direct supervision.
Examples of Duties:
The ideal EMS Billing Manager candidate must possess St. Johns County’s core values of Dedication, Openness, Adaptability, Visionary, Fiscal Responsibility, Integrity, and Humility. Some of the specific tasks include but are not limited to:
- Trains, assigns, directs, supervises, evaluates and disciplines personnel.
- Responds to complex questions from the general public regarding EMS billing policies and procedures.
- Serves as a practice expert on all issues relating to coding and billing for the department.
- Manages the investigation and resolution of billing discrepancies and errors.
- Performs and prepares insurance verification, payment posting, reimbursement management, claims submissions, account refunds, appeals, collection actions, records requests and subpoenas, pre-billing and accounts receivables follow-up.
- Allocates efficient workflow processes and helps to resolve scheduling conflicts.
- Coordinates the time off requests of team members to ensure department efficiency is not negatively affected.
- Processes administrative and year end write offs in accordance with County policy.
- Ensures adherence of procedures which comply with State and Federal requirements, regulations, and guidelines.
- Ensures appropriate staff training is provided as needed.
- Receives and assists departmental chiefs in resolving patient’s complaints.
- Maintains full-time presence on the job.
Minimum Qualifications:
Candidates for the EMS Billing Manager are encouraged to apply if they meet the following minimum qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent recognized certification.
- Minimum of three (3) years progressively responsible related experience; including one (1) year supervisory experience.
- Must have or obtain NAAC’s Certified Coder Certificate within six (6) months of employment.
- Ability to be bonded.
- Must possess and maintain a valid Florida driver’s license and any other endorsements necessary to legally operate vehicles used while assigned to this position.
- Must possess good interpersonal and communication skills in order to serve others.
- Must be able to comprehend, speak and write the English language.
- Must be able to operate a computer.
