St. Johns County Board of County Commissioners is seeking a Maintenance Worker - Athletics Groundskeeper for our well established Parks and Recreation Department.

As a valued member of our Parks & Recreation team, you’ll play a key role in keeping our parks, facilities, and public spaces clean, safe, and welcoming for the community. With nearly 50 parks, and a strong commitment to community engagement, our department relies on dedicated maintenance staff to ensure every visitor enjoys a well-cared-for environment—from playgrounds and sports fields to trails and open spaces.
Employees work in a team oriented environment with two common goals in mind: to provide the best services to our citizens and to be the best Parks and Recreation Maintenance Division in North Florida.
The ideal candidate must possess St. Johns County’s core values of compassion, innovation, and trustworthiness and must work well in a collaborative team environment. Some of the specific tasks include but are not limited to:
- Assists in preparing and maintaining athletic fields, and related facilities. Assists in installing and maintaining landscaping. Trims trees and shrubs. Rakes and blows leaves. Assists in the maintenance of irrigation systems. Irrigates, mows, renovates and fertilizes fields.
- Assists in the maintenance of buildings and facilities. Cleans and stocks restrooms. Collects litter and empties trash. Cleans parking lots and sidewalks.
- Operates mowers, tractors, trenchers, and other assigned vehicles and equipment. Utilizes a variety of hand and power tools in the maintenance of park grounds and facilities. Assists in the maintenance of tools and equipment.
- May assist with storage, inventory and distribution of products, safety gear and other materials, as assigned.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Candidates for the Maintenance Worker - Athletics Groundskeeper are encouraged to apply if they meet the following minimum qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent recognized certification.
- Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/ internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.
- Must possess and maintain a valid Florida driver’s license and any other endorsements necessary to legally operate vehicles used while assigned to this position.
- Must possess good interpersonal and communication skills in order to serve others.
- Must be able to comprehend, speak and write the English language.
- Must be able to operate a computer.
