St. Johns County Board of County Commissioners is seeking a Utility Field Technician II for our well established Utility Department whose headquarters are located in beautiful St. Augustine, Florida. The purpose of this position is to perform the county’s utility field operations. Success in this position contributes to clean and safe distribution and transmission of potable water, reclaimed water, and wastewater services for the physical health of St. Johns County and its residents. The work consists of varied technical and physical duties. Strict and frequently changing regulations contribute to the complexity of the position. This is complex technical work specializing in the operation and maintenance of the County’s potable/reclaimed water distribution/transmission, metering, and wastewater collection systems in an entry-level experience capacity.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
The ideal Utility Field Technician candidate must possess St. Johns County’s core values of compassion, innovation, and trustworthiness and must work well in a collaborative team environment. Some of the specific tasks include but are not limited to: Assists a full range of potable/ reclaimed water and wastewater distribution/ collection/ transmission system main maintenance and repair duties including general repair, system maintenance, general maintenance, meter reading, testing and maintenance and cross connection control inspections and related duties. Ensures safe work practices and policies, proper completion and recording of work orders and compliance with state and federal regulations.Assists in the installation, replacement, and relocation of potable /reclaimed water and wastewater distribution/collection/transmission system mains, laterals, fire hydrants and other appurtenances, including pressure tests, main feeders and service lines, valve replacements, various flow meters, backflow preventers, water interconnects, and other associated customer meters. Excavates trenches in order to complete maintenance, repair, or installations.Delivers materials to job sites.Performs restoration activities associated with repairing roads and sidewalks, including performing paving work after completion of leak maintenance or tap installation. Assists in the detection of leaks.Processes service disconnects for non-payment.Performs general janitorial and yard duties at maintenance facility.Ensure all assigned vehicles and equipment are properly maintained. Responds to after-hours work requests for distribution and metering system maintenance and repair including emergencies, holidays, and weekends on a rotational on-call basis as needed.Participate in installing Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) controls to safely execute work.Maintains a full-time presence on the job.Performs other duties as assigned.
