Job Summary
The purpose of this position is to provide clerical and customer service support for the operations of the Civil Court. Success in this position contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of those operations.
Major Duties
- Attends court proceedings; maintains notes of court proceedings; prepares cases prior to court; prepares case management orders; assists the judge and the judicial assistant as needed.
- Attends trial proceedings; keeps accurate notes; swears in jury and witnesses; manages evidence; publishes verdicts.
- Loads new cases into the case management system.
- Maintains civil cases; scans in evidence; redacting confidential information; destroys evidence according to proper procedures.
- Processes judicial judgments, orders, notices, and subsequent paperwork for assigned court area.
- Collects and receipts fees; processes check, credit card and cash transactions.
- Processes post-judgment foreclosure sales; conducts and finalize auctions; issues public notices.
- Opens and processes mail.
- Answers telephone and greets visitors; provides information and assistance.
- Conducts research as requested by internal and external customers.
- Maintains inventory of forms and documents.
- Performs other duties as assigned including problem solving and continuous process improvement.

SUPERVISORY CONTROLS
The Civil / Small Claims Supervisor assigns work in terms of general instructions. The supervisor spot-checks completed work for compliance with procedures, accuracy, and the nature and propriety of the final results.

Guidelines include Florida state statutes, Florida Rules of Procedure, administrative orders, county ordinances, and department policies and procedures. These guidelines are generally clear and specific but may require some interpretation in application.
