Description
In conjunction with the Director of Life Enrichment, the coordinator assists in planning life enriching events and programs designed to enhance the quality of life of each patient/resident. Provides feedback regarding individual/group resident needs to assist in planning of meaningful programs. Identifies opportunities of collaborating with community partners including the schools, senior center, arts council, churches, etc.
Coordinaton/Implementation
Coordinates/implements group enrichment events/programs by assuring necessary supplies/equipment are available, setting up space, gathering residents, supporting volunteers/visiting facilitators and/or leading the event/program. Programs include but not limited to: chair aerobics, tea, “Tot Time”, reminiscing group, “News Currents”, Bingo, arts and crafts, etc. Implements individual resident care plans related to Life Enrichment including 1-1 visits, facilitating independent leisure activities including but not limited to; crosswords, reading, knitting, responsible for AV set-up for residents, including TV with headphones.
Communication
Maintains and distributes daily programming lists targeting residents based on their interests and needs. Records resident daily participation. Informs Life Enrichment Director of resident’s responses/involvement in enrichment programs/activities. Assists in creating and distributing monthly Life Enrichment calendar. Assists in creating and distributing monthly Newsletter. Updates/maintains center communication boards. Assists in creating fliers and/or signage for Center programming and/or events. Provides communication to the Center nursing/rehab team regarding daily events, as appropriate to assure optimal participation by resident community.
Teamwork
Assists Life Enrichment Director with supply inventory, planning of purchases for the department, volunteer/visiting facilitator coordination and varied tasks to support the activities and resident living environment. Assists with the transportation of residents to areas where enrichment programs are being conducted, both internally and externally. Works in collaboration with Executive Director Senior Living, Finance Coordinator, and Director of Life Enrichment in shopping for items for residents within the confines of the resident’s personal funds. Picks up items for residents from the library (i.e., weekly DVD for Movie Night).
Customer Service
Responsible for creating a culture parallel to Eden Alternative principles. Embraces resident individuality and meets each at their point of need. Works closely with residents, their families/friends and Center team to assure optimal opportunity to lead a joyful and purposeful filled life. Works with all disciplines to promote and provide opportunity for residents/patients to engage in normal pursuits; as well as promoting a successful and well-balanced leisure lifestyle. Integrates “Going Further, Together” principles in all interactions including AIDET, 5/10 and managing up.
Required: HS graduate with 2 years vocational training/college degree or related work experience.
Preferred: 4 year college degree in therapeutic recreation or similar field such as social work, parks & recreation, wellness, education.
Minimum Work Experience
Required: Previous position that utilizes creativity, organizational and people skills. Critical to have compassion for and desire to work with the elderly. Ability to communicate effectively with residents, families, staff, and the public.
Preferred: 2 years experience in a social or recreational program role with at least 1 year in a health care setting. Prior experience in a long-term care facility.
Long term and skilled nursing care clinical setting. Occasional stressful situations, irregular hours. Care of patient/residents with complicated medical/psychosocial conditions. Must be onsite at the SJH campus or other facilities to perform the duties of this role.
Physical Requirements
Employee must be physically active including heavy lifting, climbing, and moving of residents. Must possess the ability to push, pull, or move patients/residents, equipment, and supplies. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
