Job Description Summary
The Clinical Laboratory Manager is responsible for the overall management and scheduling of Laboratory staff and workflows. The Manager assists the director with developing and maintaining appropriate quality assurance and management programs through monitoring the recording and reporting of test results and ensuring CAP and DNV compliance. The Manager is a certified MLS ASCPcm and maintains their generalist competencies with bench work as needed. Engages in efficient processing of assigned tasks and projects while providing an exceptional level of customer service for all hospital patients, clients, and staff.
Essential Functions
Manager Responsibilities
·Develops procedures and quality programs as needed with assistance from Laboratory and Medical Directors.
·Ensures staffing coverage is adequate. Oversees the schedule and time cards, including nonclinical time.
·Performs annual and 90 day evaluations, reviews applications and job descriptions, conducts interviews, organizes new hire orientation and delegates training. Completes new hire, six month, and annual competencies per CAP.
·Manages staff performance and consults with the Laboratory Director for all issues or disciplinary actions.
·Perform other duties as requested by Laboratory Director.

·Follows up on Event Reports for issues relating to staff and students.
·Completes HR documentation as needed (PAF, REQ, etc)
·Supports lab staff in daily functioning on lab by working as an MLS when needed.
·Manages student training program; interacts with university staff and monitors student practical experience.

Laboratory Manager Responsibilities-Daily
·Evaluates staffing level and electronically documents any variances to the schedule, manages vacation requests, and time card issues. Approves time cards at end of pay period.
·Available to staff to address questions and concerns.
·Review completed CAP proficiency testing results and addresses issues.
·Communicate with staff regarding areas of concern and possible improvements.
·Maintains a clean, safe, and functional work environment.

Job Requirements
Minimum Education
Required: Completed educational requirements for MLS (ASCP) cm. Must provide proof of completed degree (transcript or diploma)

Preferred: Bachelor's Degree in Clinical Laboratory Science
Minimum Work Experience:
Required: 5 years working in the Clinical Laboratory as an MLS
Preferred: 3 years experience supervisory experience

Must be able to adhere to wearing Personal Protective Equipment, including non-latex, lab coats, safety glasses, as needed. Must be on site at the SJH campus to fulfill the responsibilities of this role. >80% of the time sitting, intermittent standing and walking. >80% of time at computer.
