Job Summary
The Manager of Decision Support is a leadership role focused on enhancing analytics to support clinical performance, hospital operations, and financial planning. Working closely with the information services and finance teams, the Manager will drive data-driven operational management and decision making across care environments, support teams, leadership and revenue cycle. In addition to leading the decision support team, the Manager will collaborate with organizational leaders to ensure insights are relevant and actionable, guiding key initiatives related to growth, quality, service, and sustainability.
Data-Driven Decision Making & Culture
- Drive cultural change by promoting data-driven decision-making and provide management with insights that inform strategic decisions and KPIs.
- Collaborate with key stakeholders to develop solutions and ensure that insights are integrated into decision-making workflows (e.g., executive, clinical, operational systems).
- Share best practices and technical developments with the analytics/decision support team, fostering continuous learning and improvement.
- Work with Service Line Leaders, physicians, and the analytics team to ensure that data meets organizational needs and create reports for department leadership.
- Support the development of Pro Formas.
Systems & Technology Leadership
- Define and manage the vision for technology use in Decision Support, aligning priorities with budgets and patient data systems.
- Develop an annual plan to manage both routine and ad-hoc tasks related to budget and patient data and oversee patient-level and financial data reviews.
- Design and implement system structures to support the Costing and Patient Data teams, addressing discrepancies and approving system enhancement requests.
- Prioritize enhancements for budget and patient data, ensuring timely implementation and coordinating efforts with system users and IT.
System Optimization & Process Improvement
- Collaborate with leadership to maximize the use of key data systems such as Cerner, RVH, and Statit, serving as the subject matter expert on data system functionality.
- Work with the IT department to ensure that up-stream system feeds are functioning correctly and identify opportunities for improving workflows within Decision Support software.
- Make changes to improve the timeliness and quality of deliverables and consult with managers to identify and solve challenges using data/technology systems.
Team Management & Leadership
- Manage the Decision Support team, including recruitment, training, and providing performance feedback. Conduct regular performance reviews and handle corrective actions as needed.
- Oversee the teams labor budget and work with HR and Finance to ensure appropriate staffing and budgeting.
- Develop policies, procedures, and the scope of service for the team, ensuring deliverables align with organizational goals.
- Prioritize and manage tasks, troubleshoot complex problems, and assign team members to implement sustainable solutions.
Stakeholder Engagement & Data Governance
- Provide leadership for organization wide data needs, prioritizing and overseeing data changes (e.g., adding medical services in Cerner) and ensuring consistent data validation efforts.
- Oversee the development and delivery of routine reports and data requests, coordinating with various stakeholders.
- Equip and train stakeholders, facilitating data-driven solutions, and managing the implementation of EDW/BI tools like MoR dashboards.
Administrative & Collaborative Duties
- Attend occasional MoR meetings and partner with IT to lead the IT Project Request Process and Enterprise Architecture initiatives.
- Manage team resources, lead meetings, balance workloads, and maintain administrative tools (e.g., planners, request forms, SharePoint).
- Handle basic HR tasks including policies, productivity, compensation, one-on-ones, and professional development.
- Manage complex projects related to data processes, systems, and tools.
Functional Demands
Working Conditions: Hospital Office Setting. Small office and stressful situations. Must be on-site at the SJH Campus and other facilities to perform the functions of this role.
Physical Requirements: 50% of the time sitting, intermittent standing and walking, 50% of time at computer, ability to bend, stoop and reach. Frequent typing, writing, and speaking, both in person and via phone/ video conference.
