ASSISTANT DIRECTOR NURSING SERVICES

Summary & Objective

The Assistant, Director Nursing is a Nurse, Registered who assists the Director, Nursing Services in the management of clinical nursing practice and patient care delivery and functions as the Performance Improvement Coordinator. The Assistant, Director Nursing Services has 24/7 responsibility of the Nursing Department.

Essential Functions

• Assists in ensuring staff attendance and providing staff coverage for all mandatory in-service classes/meetings by regularly monitoring time and attendance.  
• Plans, organizes, directs, controls and evaluates patient and/or resident’s care delivered as designated by Director, Nursing Services.
• Assists Educator, Nurse in monitoring staff compliance with mandatory education programs.
• Collaborates with Educator, Nurse in identifying educational needs of staff based on results of performance improvement activity, rounds on nursing units and concerns identified by patient and/or resident/families. 
• Assists in controlling staffing hours per resident day based on facility budget/policy and consideration of overtime needs and costs
• Keeps Director, Nursing Services informed of Nursing Department needs and activities, staff and patient and/or resident’s concerns through written and/or verbal reports.
• Demonstrates a working knowledge of the Nursing process (assessment, plan, intervention, evaluation, documentation).
• Ensures that staff applies the nursing process in a timely manner; i.e. admission assessments, interim plan of care, fall risk and skin risk protocols.

Other Duties

• Reviews 24-hour report to monitor and ensure timely, effective responses to significant changes in condition, transfers, discharges, use of restraints, unexplained injuries, falls, behavioral episodes, and medication errors.
• Participates in the recruitment and selection of nursing personnel and assures sufficient staff is hired in collaboration with Director, Nursing Services and Human Resources.
• Ensure Nursing Department is prepared for inspections/surveys.
• Participates in the preparation of the Plan of Correction response to an inspection survey, and implements

any follow-up requirement for any nursing citations.

• Promotes customer service and hospitality and responds to and adequately resolves complaints or concerns

from patient and/or resident’s or families about nursing services.

• Assures occurrences are documented and followed up.
• Provides support for licensed nurses and CNA’s at all experience levels, to learn their roles and continue development in nursing.
• Promotes positive employee engagement, teamwork, mutual respect and safety work practices.
• Answers call lights within appropriate established timeframe. 
• Maintain your required certifications and mandatory skill updates.
• Comply with all policies, local, state and federal laws and regulations.
• Perform other duties as assigned

Supervisory Responsibility

• May serve as an interim department leader depending on need

Physical Requirements

• Must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and push/pull up to 250 pounds, walk, climb stair or ladders, stand on feet for extended periods of time, etc.

Requirements

Knowledge & Experience Requirements

• Clear and Active Registered Nurse license to practice in the state of Florida
• CPR certification
• 1-3 years of experience in a Health Care Facility
• 2 years of supervisory experience required
• BSN preferred
• Must have knowledge of computer office/clinical software
• Must be able to read, write and understand the English language
