Education and Outreach Coordinator
Strategic Communications and Engagement
Job Summary:
This is independent professional work telling the compelling story of the district in an effort to help preserve and restore our natural resources. This individual will serve as a primary outreach coordinator, tabling events, presenting to the public, working with educators in the region and creating a formal ambassador program within the district to support the number of in-person outreach requests that are received by the district. This individual will work collaboratively with the team to support the development of compelling content that increases overall stakeholder engagement and educates residents across an 18-county region. This individual will work to provide coverage for outreach events most often in the lower half of the district to complement our outreach coordinator who serves the upper half of the district.
Job Duties Include:
- Presents District information to civic, business, and other special interest groups and facilitates presentations to communities and stakeholders as needed.
- Identifies and participates in key community events, representing the District and providing information on District programs and projects.
- Performs and participates in special communications projects and initiatives as assigned, assuming project leadership and responsibility for successful project implementation. Projects may include serving as a liaison with select groups, such as other District divisions and bureaus, media, advisory councils, and other agencies; writing for District publications, website, presentations, or other communication tools to reach various audiences; developing and implementing communication plans for specific audiences or issues; and developing and disseminating water resource information to students and teachers.
- Determines high visibility issues and develops strategies for communicating information to address the issues; responds to public inquiries and performs other public communication duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in science, education, political science, journalism, communications, or a related field and four years of professional experience in communication and public relations.
A master's degree from an accredited college or university in journalism, communications, or a related field can substitute for one year of the required experience.
Professional experience in public relations can substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required college education.
Physical Requirements/Working Environment:
Mostly office environment and limited travel as required; ability to work some weekends at stakeholder events around the District
Licenses:
Requires a valid Florida driver license.
Travel:
Requires travel to attend off-site meetings, sometimes outside of normal business hours including overnight. Ability to drive oneself to and from meetings.
Additional Details:
Starting Salary Range: $64,313 -$70,000
Starting salary is based on qualifications and experience.
