What are the responsibilities and job description for the Facilites Foreman position at St. Johns Ship Building?
Set up, operate, or control tools for each specific job. Maintain grounds of yard including roads and buildings. Manages the work tasks of facilities laborers to be efficient in workload. Provide preventive maintenance, regular maintenance and upkeep to the facility. To include minor lighting, electrical, HVAC, plumbing, and carpentry keeping it operating at optimal efficiency. Serve as assistant security officer.
Supervises (including hiring, tracking hours, orienting, training, evaluating, and discharging) the facility laborers to ensure they receive the training and support required for optimal performance. Maintains up-to-date supervision records on each employee. Assists Management in all staff evaluations and any required staff disciplinary actions, as requested, and on time. Ensures that the selection of employees is administered without regard to race, religion, color, veteran’s status, national origin, citizenship, sex, age, or non-job-related disability and consistent with Affirmative Action objectives and EEO laws. Responsible for ensuring excellent customer service and performance by subordinate staff.
Key Performance Indicators are as follows: Ensures that daily tasks are completed each day; follows up with team members to ensure that they have proper training and tools to complete their jobs; completes all training assigned on time 100% of the time; and ensures that the team has completed their training 100% of the time.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

- Assign the daily task to the facility team members.
- Follow up to ensure tasks are completed daily.
- Mentor and train new employees.
- Schedules employees in his/her area of responsibility, approves time off and ensures proper staffing.
- Prepare construction sites to eliminate possible hazards.
- Assists equipment operators to facilitate alignment, movement, or adjustment of machinery, equipment, or materials.
- Read plans, instructions, or specifications to determine work activities.
- Load, unload, or identify building materials, machinery, or tools, distributing them to the appropriate locations, according to project plans or specifications.
- Erect or dismantle scaffolding, shoring, braces, traffic barricades, ramps, or other temporary structures.
- Work directly with the craft supervisor to assist in daily operations.
- Use good judgement to classify and complete jobs based on priority and time restrictions.
- Understanding of security measures.
- Having general knowledge of OSHA requirements.
- Be willing to assist in tasks when needed.
