Job Summary/Scope
Provides minor building maintenance and janitorial services for Patee Market Health Center and the St. Joseph Animal Shelter. No supervisory or budgetary responsibilities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Cleans and maintains floors including sweeping, mopping and vacuuming.
Dusts all common areas and hallways.
Cleans windows and side-lite glass.
Wipes down and sanitizes counters and flat-top surfaces in high traffic areas.
Cleans restrooms and stocks necessary supplies.
Keeps interior and exterior premises free of trash and debris, including but not limited to dumping receptacles routinely, and disposing of all trash in exterior dumpster.
Vacuums, spot-cleans and, when necessary, shampoo/steam cleans carpeted areas and upholstered furniture.
Performs some general maintenance activities including, but not limited to, changing light bulbs and air filters and washing ceiling vents, as needed.
Regular and reliable attendance required.
Other Duties and Responsibilities
Shovels snow from walkways and applies ice melting compound(s) as necessary.
Assembles minor pieces of furniture such as bookshelves or office chairs, per package directions.
Moves furniture and/or supplies within the building or to/from off-site storage, or other locations, with assistance.
Receives deliveries and stocks supplies received.
Organizes and maintains storage areas.
Mows and trims exterior grounds of animal shelter; maintains landscaped areas at Patee Market including planting and watering; removes existing undesirable foliage and treats for weed growth outside of both facilities, seasonally.
Removes debris/trash from exterior of facility, including parking areas; maintains parking space paint striping, as needed.
Performs all other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge of general custodial practices and procedures.
Knowledge of the various supplies used in building maintenance.
Skills in the proper use and application of cleaning products and equipment.
Ability to operate equipment, including but not limited to, a high-speed buffer, carpet cleaner, steam cleaner, mower, trimmer and snow blower
Ability to work effectively with other employees.
Valid Driver’s License required.
Material and Equipment Directly Used
Uses a variety of equipment such as low speed and high-speed buffers, brooms, mops, cleaning supplies, and vacuum. There may be times when use of a personal vehicle may be required.
Working Environment/Physical Requirements
Work is performed in a variety of indoor and outdoor settings where weather conditions can vary from extreme heat and cold, with high levels of dust, dirt, fumes and noise. Physical activity includes prolonged standing, bending, stooping, lifting, walking and using arms and hands frequently. Must have the ability to lift objects weighing 75-100 pounds independently and assist in lifting objects weighing in-excess-of 100 pounds. Must have the ability to carry and maneuver a 25’ ladder and to climb a ladder to reach heights of 30’ or more to perform basic maintenance tasks, safely. Must be able to work in close proximity to animals for extended periods of time, inside of an animal shelter. Some overnight or day travel may be required for business purposes. Leve scheduling shall be requested of and approved by the appropriate supervisor.
Education
High school diploma or equivalent required. Previous experience in same or similar field preferred.
Passing of a drug screening required prior to appointment.
