POSITION TITLE: Fitness Attendant
DEPARTMENT: Parks, Recreation & Civic Facilities
DIVISION: REC Center
IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: REC Center Supervisor
SALARY: $13.75/Hourly
Job Summary/Scope:
Oversee the proper utilization of all equipment and provide guidance in the usage of equipment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Greets patrons to the fitness center and provides general fitness assistance to members.
Monitors orderly operation of fitness area and equipment and guides members on proper usage of fitness equipment.
Ensures equipment and machines are cleaned and functioning properly and safety standards are followed.
Documents all accidents and incidents in the fitness room as well as equipment malfunctions and safety hazards and reports them to REC Center Supervisor.
Accurately keeps inventory of any supplies and coordinates with supervisor to re-order as needed.
Other Duties and Responsibilities:
Performs all other related duties as the need arises from daily activities.

City employees shall conduct themselves in a professional manner and shall exhibit and extend such professional conduct appropriate for the circumstances to those with whom they come into contact both internally and externally during the performance of their duties. Examples of professional conduct include, but are not limited to, being communicative, informative, fair, honest and respectful
Required Knowledge, Skills and Ability:
Knowledge of the proper techniques for all equipment in the fitness center.
Experience and/or ability to learn about the machines and equipment, along with the proper techniques.
Must have the ability to enforce operating policies and procedures in an effective and courteous manner
Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing.
Ability to provide excellent customer service to members and REC Center staff.
Must have the ability to establish and maintain courteous and effective working relationships with coworkers and Center patrons.
Ability to obtain First Aid/CPR/AED training certification from the American Red Cross or American Heart Association, or an equivalent nationally recognized course in First Aid/CPR/AED.
Ability to work flexible hours, which will include evenings, weekends and holidays.
Must be able to occasionally lift 25 pounds.
Valid Driver's License required.
Material and Equipment Directly Used:
Fitness equipment to include, but not limited to fitness machines, mats, weights, stretching, audio-video equipment; lighting; fans and regulate HVAC for fitness area. There may be times when use of personal vehicle may be required.
Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:
This work requires the occasional exertion of over 100 pounds of force; work regularly requires standing, walking and speaking or hearing, frequently requires using hands to finger, handle or feel, reaching with hands and arms and repetitive motions and occasionally requires sitting, climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, pushing or pulling and lifting; work has standard vision requirements; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word and conveying detailed or important instructions to others accurately, loudly or quickly; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; work requires visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, using of measuring devices, assembly or fabrication of parts within arm’s length, operating machines, operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities; work occasionally requires working near moving mechanical parts; work is generally in a loud noise location (e.g. grounds maintenance, heavy traffic).
Education:
High School diploma or equivalent required. Prefer fitness, exercise and health-related certifications or any combination of work experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. First Aid/CPR/AED training certification from the American Red Cross or American Heart Association, or an equivalent nationally recognized course in First Aid/CPR/AED preferred.
Passing of a drug screening required prior to appointment.
