Serving as a liaison between St. Joseph Medical Group clinic’s patient population and clinical staff, the Triage Nurse assumes the responsibility for telephone correspondence with patients and pharmacies and works to preserve patient well-being by providing nursing triage services, consultation, and education over the phone in an efficient and patient-friendly manner. Under the general supervision of the Clinic Manager, this position contributes to efficient operations at St. joseph Medical Group Clinics, as it helps to reduce unnecessary visits to service sites while promoting quality patient care.
Primary Duties
- Assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care needs. This includes assessing patient’s condition, triaging patient phone calls, counseling patients, providing patient education, taking patient histories, administering prescribed medications, changing dressings, cleaning wounds and monitoring patient vital signs.
- Demonstrates critical thinking skills necessary for appropriate patient care and interaction with providers and support staff.
- Documents patient care in the healthcare record according to established standards.
- Ensures own professional effectiveness through education and professional development.
- Participates in the development of and maintains established policies, procedures and objectives; quality improvement; safety; environmental and infection prevention programs.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- Graduate of an accredited Nursing Program
- Licensed as an RN in the State of Idaho
- Current BLS-HCP
- Demonstrated knowledge of and ability to apply age specific principles of growth and development and life stages to meet each patient’s needs.
Preferred:
- One year of experience working as a Registered Nurse
