Core Job Functions
- Educates patients with regard to their medical condition. Comprehensive review of the patient's medical history is performed and documented. Consults with other medical professional and physicians when needed.
- Prescribes medications that are necessary to control medical condition. Refers patient to specialist when necessary. Orders lab work, radiology studies as needed to better assess the patient's condition.
- Obtains a complete history and physical on new patients. Charts and dictates progress notes appropriately. Confers with physician on patients presenting with more complex problems.
- Clinical procedures are carried out based on clinical protocol. Informs patients about procedures prior to performing and communicates results to patients. Informs patients on provider instructions and any preparations.
- Refers patients to specialists if needed. Maintains liaison with other disciplines, such as social services, nutritional speech therapy, physical therapy, pastoral care, and pain management. Implements plan of care.
