Position Summary

The Medical Sonographer, OB/GYN performs routine diagnostic sonographic testing on OB/GYN patients utilizing ultrasound machines. The sonographer will be responsible for working closely with GYN and OB Patients for the practice. For OB patients the sonographer will identify the size of the fetus's organs and other body parts and notify the physician of any findings. For GYN patients the sonographer will capture clear images of the internal female organs and provide findings to the physician. US procedures are performed frequently without immediate supervision but in accordance to standards approved by the Medical Director. All ultrasounds must be documented in EMR and images captured must be uploaded by the sonographer to the electronic medical record.

Core Job Functions
- Knowledgeable of JC, OSHA, and ACR guidelines concerning the care of the patient. Demonstrates knowledge of proper aseptic technique, Universal Precautions, Time/Out, Read back/Verify and ALARA. Demonstrates knowledge of patients rights and use of required patient identification.
- Routine cleaning and maintenance of OB/GYN equipment is performed in accordance with manufacturer recommendation and OB/GYN department policy. Work orders involving OB/GYN equipment are entered promptly into the system. Staff education regarding care and operation of OB/GYN equipment is conducted annually and as needed.
- Maintains national certification/registry. Is competent in the use of all OB/GYN departmental equipment and is able to perform all procedures effectively.
- Maintains and works safely with OB/GYN equipment. Reports any issues with OB/GYN equipment to management for correction or repair. Uses Safe Patient Handling system appropriately.
- Charges exams accurately, anticipates supply needs and reports the information to the appropriate person.
- Interprets requests and performs exams in accordance with approved protocols. Communicates with radiologists and physicians about appropriateness of exams when in question. Maintains aseptic/sterile environment during invasive procedures and otherwise.
