Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Recognizes and supports the unique Catholic Mission of the School.
- Does not espouse any doctrine inconsistent with the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church.
- Sets an example for students by personal adherence to Catholic Doctrine and principles of morality.
- Offers appropriate, mission aligned guidance services, wellness and behavior management programs that focus on the spiritual, social, emotional, academic, and physical well-being of students and their families.
- Identifies and develop creative intervention methods and procedures to adapt effectively to unusual situations, participates in coordination, monitoring and reporting student interventions.
- Serves as a resource for teachers, students and parents regarding counseling needs.
- Serves as liaison to school staff and outside resources; maintain consistency and continuity in the school’s response procedures.
- Implements an effective referral and follow-up process.
- Provides appropriate information to staff, students and parents related to the comprehensive school counseling program.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Possess excellent professional interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Proficiency in the use of computer technology is relative to the requirements of
- this position.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality a must.
- Flexibility in assessing needs and strategies and adapting appropriately in a
- ministerial environment.
- Must pass a criminal background check and complete Diocesan Safe
- Environment training.
- Maintain a professional appearance.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience
- Master’s degree in counseling from an accredited institution.
- Licensed by the State or certified by an independent professional regulatory authority.
- Documented competence in counseling children and adolescents in a school setting.
Essential Physical Abilities/Working Conditions
- Ability to perform essential duties without endangering self or others.
- Motor skills needed for equipment operation and general office duties.
- Sufficient personal mobility, agility, strength, and physical reflexes, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to move or traverse in a classroom environment for an extended period of time, operate school/office equipment, to reach, stoop, bend, lift up to 25 pounds, and work in a school environment.
- Detects objects to identify proximity, depth and/or color and ability to comprehend and/or perform duties prescribed.
- Converse with others to express oneself and/or exchange information.
Additional Qualifications
- Practicing Roman Catholic preferred.
- Bi-lingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
