Facility highlight : Located in the heart of Phoenix, Arizona, St. Joseph's is a 607 bed, nationally recognized center for quality tertiary care, medical education and research. Lung transplant specialty. Liver and Kidney Transplant as well. Associated with the Barrow Neuro Institute, world’s #1 institute.
Unit : Cardiac Tele - Tower 7
Common diagnoses / Types of patients : CABG, MVR, STEMI, HF, Fundoplication, VATS Decordication, vascular repair
Experience with post-op Cardiovascular Surgery Patients is highly recommended, but not required.
Job Requirements
2 years of CORE experience required in specialty being submitted to; Level 1 Trauma and Teaching experience required
Must have Level I Trauma Experience
Cerner EMR preferred
Must pass Dysrhythmia Exam Prior to Acceptance, 80% passing score - 48 hours to complete, if failed, candidate will be DNU with AZ CS and Sacramento
Travel teams must have their own cars
Must have clean shave for onsite fit test
No facial piercings
Must have natural hair color
Schedule Information
Weekly Orientations, Mondays, except for holiday weeks
3 weekend shifts in a 4 week schedule block
2 out of 3 major holidays
Self scheduling allowed as requests. Shifts balanced with scheduler.
Unit Specific Information
Nurse : Patient Ratios : 1 : 3 or 1 : 4
Are RNs required to titrate drips? Yes
Common titratable & / or set rate drips : Heparin, Cardizem, Amiodarone
Tele Techs located off unit and monitoring. RN should be able to interpret common rhythms. GE tele packs and monitors.
Resource / Charge nurse ideally does not take patients
1 PCT for 16 beds
Cpap, BiPap, HFNC available
2 day unit orientation; 12 hour nights
Additional Details
BLS; Medical Solutions Prescreen Interview if Clinical Recommends, manager to review before offering
DAY 1 PASS FAIL SIMs Lab : All RNs will be expected to complete SIMs Lab for Foley catheter insertion & central line dressing changes, with the exception of NyICU & ED.
NOTE : if a candidate indicates that they are not competent in either of these areas, they are probably not a good fit.
