PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES :
Teach Upper or Lower School Department subjects according to NYS Regulations (Parts 100 and 200) and SED Common Core Standards. Follow regulations with necessary adaptations for individual IEP goals.
TEACHING AND LEARNING
Develop unit and lesson plans in curriculum areas according to NYS requirements with considerationfor needs and abilities of diverse student learners
Follow daily schedules, submit monthly unit plans, maintain a daily lesson plan bookLeave emergency lessons and materials available at all times for substitute, if neededImplement educational approaches with approval of Supervisor and within the frameworkof school initiatives
Prepare for special programs, shows and events as neededAttend all meetings related to the position (departments, school, team, parent-student, consultants, etc.)1.6 Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of each student
COMMUNICATION :
Use appropriate language and communication methodology required for each studentand in accordance with school philosophy and student needs
Keep all class and personal hearing aids functioning at maximum levelReport needed repairs promptly
REPORTS AND RECORDKEEPING
Prepare IEP’s. Review and update as requiredPrepare suitable educational reports for New York State Education Department, clinics and otherrelated agencies as requested
3.2 Maintain inventory of student abilities and needs through ongoing evaluations, formal and informal
assessments. Update student records
Study student performance and utilize each student’s learning style to maximize learning potentialCollect and analyze student work samples regularly to determine teaching and learning needs3.5 Preserve samples of student’s work
Prepare and update confidential Educational Folder for each studentPrepare report cardsMANAGEMENT :
Manage student behavior using current best practices (Seek guidance / assistance for more complexbehavior management support)
Share duties and special supervision according to schedules and department needs4.2 Support all facets of student development
RELATED RESPONSIBILITIES :
Participate in conferences with supervisor according to schedule or as necessaryParticipate in conferences as student’s or parent’s need indicatesParticipate in multi-disciplinary staff conferencesParticipate in staff meetings as scheduledWork cooperatively with Related Service providers all staff, consultants, etc.Supervise and plan with teacher assistant, mentee and / or student teachers as necessaryPrepare evaluations of teacher assistants annuallyUse available school resources for continuing professional developmentProvide recommendations for improvement of school programs and general functions to yourSupervisor if indicated
PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS :
NYS Certification in Special Education.NYS Certification in Education of the DeafPreschool or Early Childhood Education (preferred)MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS BEYOND PROFESSIONAL PREPARATION :
Willingness to participate in in-service programs offered by school and to engage in course work recommended by administration as indication of continuing professional growthAbility to work with atypical learnersAbility to utilize multi-disciplinary recommendations, in overall programming and / or specificinterventions
