Responsible for supervising the day-to-day activities of the laboratory transcriptionists and couriers. In cooperation with Security/Safety oversees the daily activities of the morgue. Works closely with the Chairman of Pathology and the staff pathologists to ensure compliance with all accreditating, licensing, and regulatory agencies, including, but not limited to CAP, DNV, and NJDOH. Responsible for monthly schedules and assignments of the Pathologists, Transcriptionists, and Lab Couriers. Provides complex administrative support functions to the Pathology/Laboratory department leadership. Requires a comprehensive knowledge of hospital policies and procedures and laboratory related medical terminology. Is a good critical thinker and can function independently, making sound judgments within scope of duties, while maintaining the highest level of confidentiality. Requires excellent interpersonal skills to interact professionally with all customers, both internal and external.
Work requires a High School diploma or equivalent and five to seven years of previous work related experience. Proficiency in MS Office required: Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint. Work requires communication skills necessary to frequently answer telephone calls, speak with internal and external customers, and send professional e-mail communications. Bilingual preferred. Requires the ability to work with multiple interruptions while maintaining positive and professional communication. Requires the ability to report and exchange information on factual matters to patients and clinicians as well as vendors and the appropriate laboratory and Medical Center personnel.
