What are the responsibilities and job description for the Business Office Support Clerk position at St. Josephs Medical Center?
JOB SUMMARY :
This position provides general business office and financial operations support to the business office and patient access departments. The coordinator works in a variety of roles to provide consistent coverage in these areas.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Consistently supports and communicates the Mission, Vision and Values of St. Joseph Medical Center.
- Follows the St. Joseph Medical Center Guidelines related to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), designed to prevent or detect unauthorized disclosure of Protected Health Information (PHI).
- Promotes a culture of safety for patients and employees through proper identification, proper reporting, documentation and prevention of medical errors in a non-punitive environment.
- Responsible for retrieving and distributing incoming and internal mail for the entire hospital.
- Provides coverage for the cashier during breaks, lunch and personal time off.
- Provides coverage as needed for vacations, breaks and lunches for positions approved by their direct supervisor.
- Handles all client billing for the business office. Ensures invoices are completed timely and accurately, emailed and / or mailed to clients and follows up by phone on past due invoices.
- Meets with patients who come into the business office with questions about their hospital bills.
- Reviews the account with them providing explanations to bring it to resolution.
- Initiates patient refunds when overpayments are identified.
- All other duties as assigned.
