JOB SUMMARY :
Under minimal supervision, applies principles of accounting and statistical analysis in order to maintain Hospital general accounting systems and financial reporting in a centralized environment. In addition, under minimal supervision, applies principles of accounting and statistical analysis in order to maintain Fixed Asset accounting systems and financial reporting in a centralized environment for SJMC. These responsibilities include :
Standardization of Fixed Asset accounting systems and procedures
Assigns appropriate life to purchased assets
Coordination of Fixed Asset inventories at healthcare facility
Maintenance of Fixed Asset system
Preparation of Account Reconciliations and required corporate reports
Trendstar reporting
Processing of ER Non-Resource Call Pay claims
Maintenance of STAR Vendor Maintenance database
Maintenance and billing of facility lease agreements
Preparation necessary journal entries in conjunction with the monthly close process and external audits
Monitors and analyzed both complex and non complex general leger accounts and provide variance analysis for fluctuations
Maintains communication with hospital and System office personnel
Performs various analysis and special projects as directed by supervisor
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
1. Consistently supports and communicates the Mission, Vision and Values of St. Joseph Medical Center.
2. Follows the St. Joseph Medical Center Guidelines related to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), designed to prevent or detect unauthorized disclosure of Protected Health Information (PHI).
3. Promotes a culture of safety for patients and employees through proper identification, proper reporting, documentation and prevention of medical errors in a non-punitive environment.
4. Performs analysis of general ledger accounts. Reviews entries and compares balances as to reasonableness, and interprets trends or deviations from expected results.
5. Prepares monthly journal entries for complex accounts by ensuring all account activity is recorded and necessary adjustments are calculated and corrections are made.
6. Analyzed the trend reports for significant fluctuations and is able to discuss these variance explanations for general ledger accounts as assigned.
7. Maintains contact with various Hospital personnel and management (including senior leadership) and answers department questions and recommends procedures to address issues.
8. Assists in the preparation of audit schedules for the outside and internal auditors.
9. Performs work on special projects and demonstrates the application of appropriate accounting theory and GAAP.
10. Maintains the Fixed Asset system. Establishes standard fixed asset procedures for the hospital. Assigns depreciable lives to new fixed assets. Responsible for reconciling fixed asset subsidiary system to the general ledger. Responsible for coordination of yearly review and correction of fixed asset inventories with hospital assistance.
11. Provides financial reports for managerial and interdepartmental review from Trendstar.
12. Maintains guidelines of physician contracts and processes payments for eligible ER Non-Resource claims as outlined in physician contracts.
13. Maintains contract parking receivables and produce monthly billing invoices for all contract parking accounts.
14. Maintains and updates STAR Vendor Maintenance system for the use of Accounts payable and Purchasing Departments. In addition, ensures internal controls are met in regard to the Accounts payable system.

c. Assures timely compliance education as requested by the Compliance Officer and / or through corporate initiatives.
15. Sets an example to all staff in their daily activities.
WORK EXPERIENCE :
- Five to seven years of experience in accounting
- Hospital experience preferred
