Head Start Assistant Teacher

St. Lawrence County Community Development Program, Inc. is accepting applications for a Head Start Assistant Teacher in our Gouvernuer Head Start Center. CDA with early childhood experience preferred. Individuals must have a minimum of a high school diploma or its equivalent with a plan of study leading to a CDA or advanced degree. If the plan is to complete a CDA, it must be completed within 2 years. Individuals must also have substantial experience in daycare, early childhood, or related programs.

Position Summary: Work as a member of the team to provide quality services to preschool-aged children and their families enrolled in the program by promoting the social, emotional, physical, and cognitive development of the children and encouraging parent involvement. Work closely with the Teacher to provide a nurturing, safe, and supervised educational setting for children while they are in the Head Start environment (classroom, outdoor play area, and field trips.) Assist Teacher with monitoring and development of individual and group goals for children based on ongoing assessment results. In the event the Teacher is absent, the Assistant Teacher will be responsible for the classroom operation including supervision of children, parents, volunteers, and the Classroom Aide, in collaboration with the Education Coordinator.
