Director of the Leadership Graduate Program

St. Lawrence University
Canton, NY Full Time
POSTED ON 1/17/2025
AVAILABLE BEFORE 3/16/2025

Primary Responsibilities
At St. Lawrence University, we believe that the liberal arts offer an essential foundation for leadership. We seek a full-time Director of the Leadership Graduate Program who shares that belief and will oversee our Master of Arts in Leadership program. Key responsibilities include: teaching 2 graduate courses a semester; mentoring and advising graduate students; recruiting and expanding enrollment in the graduate program; and managing all aspects of administering the program. On-line summer course teaching in the graduate program may be possible for an additional stipend.
We are looking for a leadership generalist who can teach core departmental courses while also proposing special topics courses in response to student interests and changes in the field of leadership studies. While teaching is a central responsibility of this role, so is program administration. Those tasks include, but are not limited to: graduate admissions; graduate recruitment and outreach; updating program policies, calendar, and graduate catalog; planning course schedules; collaborating with the Registrar’s Office; collaborating with Athletics; managing, recruiting and reviewing adjunct professors; engaging full-time St. Lawrence faculty to teach in the program; developing online course offerings; onboarding, mentoring, and advising graduate students; building connections with the North Country community around themes of leadership; and program assessment. The Director will also be charged with exploring ideas for growing graduate student enrollment.
The Director of the Leadership Graduate Program will report to the Chair of the Education Department and will be expected to work independently but also be a good collaborator. This is a full-time, 10-month position and not eligible for tenure. Though the Director will be eligible for faculty professional travel to attend pedagogy conferences and present research at conferences, research is not an expectation in this position. Rather, the Director will be assessed annually on their teaching, mentoring, and administration of the program. Many of the students in the Leadership program are graduate assistant coaches. As such, an interest in working with the Athletics Department and coaches is essential.

Both the University and Education Department are committed to diversity among its faculty, staff and students. Such a commitment ensures an atmosphere that is diverse and complex in ways that are intellectually and socially enriching for the entire campus community. Applications by members of all underrepresented groups, as well as from individuals with experience teaching or working in a multicultural environment, are encouraged. St. Lawrence University is an Equal Opportunity Employer. (See the diversity statement at: http://www.stlawu.edu/president/statement-diversity.)

  • Experience teaching graduate-level courses in leadership or related field
  • Record of successful mentoring of graduate students
  • Interest in working with graduate assistant coaches
  • Demonstrated commitment to a rigorous liberal arts education
  • Ideas for expanding the graduate program while maintaining its rigor and commitment to liberal arts education
  • Experience designing new courses
