Position Title: CUSTODIAN
Status: Part-time, Non-Exempt
Work Hours: 2nd shift - 18-20 hours per week -
Primarily Reports to: Maintenance and Facilities Manager
Secondarily Reports to: Director of Administration
- Primarily responsible for providing coordinated janitorial services for the school office, classes, hall and restrooms. Sets up, takes down and provides cleaning services for parish and school activities within the facility. The custodian is responsible for basic maintenance of buildings and equipment. Custodian shall work in collaboration with other maintenance staff to clean and maintain Parish Center and school.
MAJOR POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES AND REGULAR ACTIVITIES
- Clean and maintain specific areas as assigned
- Clean and sanitize restrooms/bathrooms using established practices and procedures
- Clean, dust and wipe furniture; sweep, mop or vacuum floors; empty/clean wastebaskets and trash/recycle containers; replace light bulbs; refill restroom dispensers
- Assist with the setup of facilities for meetings, classrooms, conferences, events, etc.
- Assist with annual floor care; clean, buff and apply floor sealer to hard surface floors, vacuum and shampoo carpets
- Lock and unlock assigned buildings; secure building when facilities are not in use; check for unlocked doors and windows. Report any unauthorized occupants.
- Move furniture, equipment, supplies and tools on an incidental basis
- Wash accessible interior and exterior windows. Clean blinds. Launder cleaning rags and dust mops.
- Assist in light maintenance such as touch up painting, replacing light bulbs, minor repairs.
- Attend classes or training as required in cleaning methods and techniques, new products, First Aid, CPR, and other job related workshops
- Summer Duties to include detail cleaning in the school: desks, windows, equipment, etc.
- Seasonal duties may include snow clearing of walk ways and entrances
Must possess the following:
- Attention to detail.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Strong time-management skills.
- Self-motivated and able to perform outlined task with minimal supervision.
- Ability to recognize problem areas and fix or report those.
- Ability to safely operate various cleaning machines.
EDUCATION, TRAINING AND/OR EXPERIENCE
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Valid driver’s license and good driving record. Drive as necessary on parish property, and on errands as required by parish
- Knowledge, skills and abilities in use of custodial tools, equipment and materials relating to facility cleaning/janitorial needs
- Basic computer knowledge/skills
- Must complete or have completed and be registered in the Safeguarding All of God’s Family Program
- Must submit to a pre-employment medical examination, TB Test results, drug screening and background check as a condition of employment
- WORKING ENVIRONMENT and EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS
- Work within the grounds and buildings at St. Leonard Congregation. Exposure to climate changes and temperatures is expected. Position requires ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time, ability to use hands, speak and hear and lift/push/pull up to 50 pounds regularly. Requires close vision to use cleaning equipment. Must be able to reach above shoulder, stoop, kneel and climb. Exposure to moderate noise. (see details on description addendum provided at interview)
