Job Summary:
The St. Louis Cardinals are seeking candidates for our Business Strategy Analyst position. The Business Strategy & Analytics department works cross-functionally with our Marketing, Ticketing, Production, and Corporate Partnerships teams to optimize revenue, enhance brand engagement, and support other long-term strategic initiatives. This position conducts industry research analyzes data and trends, and develops strategic recommendations aimed at enhancing revenue growth, fan engagement, and business innovation.
Job Duties:
- Strategic Planning & Execution: Collaborate with department leadership to scope strategic initiatives and develop long-term strategic plans. Support the execution of these initiatives to enhance the organization's revenue performance, operational efficiencies, fan experience, etc.
- Strategic Recommendations: Generate actionable recommendations borne in data-driven insight to inform key business decisions. Example projects may include ticket product development, fan-centric process design, or new digital engagements.
- Storytelling & Executive Communications: Translate research and analysis into easy-to-follow stories with clear takeaways and actions. Synthesize large amounts of information into briefings or presentations for management and executive-level leaders.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with internal stakeholders across departments to set long-term organizational vision and develop integrated strategic plans.
- Change Management: Support implementation of recommendations, new processes, and programs with impacted stakeholders. Example projects include business process redesign efforts, new technology implementations, or facilitating operating model changes.
- Data Analysis & Insight Generation: Work closely with BI / Analytics team to collect, clean, and analyze internal data and drive data-centric discussions and decisions across the organization. Develop presentation materials with a strong ability to synthesize information into clear, impactful, and measurable business recommendations.
- Hypothesis Testing: Work with Club and industry data to formulate and test hypotheses, developing critical business insights with a strong command of details and nuances.
- Relationship Building: Build strong interpersonal relationships with cross-functional stakeholders, league office contacts, and industry peers.
Education/Experience Required:
- Bachelor's degree in business administration, strategy, management, finance, economics, business analytics, or related field (completed by May 2025 or earlier)
- Intellectual curiosity and voracious appetite to learn
- Excellent written and oral communication / presenting skills
- Experience explaining technical data or strategic topics to nontechnical stakeholders
- Deep knowledge of decomposing intricate or unclear business problems, building solutions, and creating recommendations
- Strong data analysis & insight generation skills (data collection and cleaning, survey development, data visualization, summary of findings, etc.)
- Experience translating complex data and insights into easy-to-digest presentation materials
- Familiarity with project planning, initiative prioritization, and roadmap development
- Ability to initiate tasks independently and deliver multiple concurrent projects involving stakeholders from across the organization
- Understanding of KPI / OKR development (ex. metric design, benchmarking)
- Ability to create work products using Microsoft Office Suite such as PowerPoint decks, Excel models, or other visual and written deliverables
- Strong leadership skills
- Passion for sports and/or baseball
Education/Experience Preferred:
- 1-3 years of work experience in corporate strategy, management consulting, business analytics, or similar strategic or data-driven roles
- Experience supporting long-term vision setting, strategic planning efforts, execution of strategic initiatives, etc.
- Proficiency in communicating with and presenting to executive-level stakeholders
- Experience with design thinking and/or workshop facilitation
- Familiarity with organizational design or operating model development
- Formal or informal experience leading small teams
- Understanding of Agile/SAFe
- Familiarity with business process design & redesign techniques
- Exposure to building digital and/or mobile strategies
- Experience with a sports franchise, specifically in Strategy and/or Analytics function
