The Basics Of This Position

This Educational Assistant III position is essential to the STLCC Center for Plant and Life Sciences (CPLS) as its laboratory manager, primarily operating in the biotechnology training labs at BRDG Park (1005 N Warson Rd, Creve Coeur MO).

The role supports STLCC’s mission by overseeing CPLS activities, events, and lab operations, including:

  • Preparing, transporting, and managing lab materials for biotech courses and trainings.
  • Troubleshooting lab issues, maintaining equipment, and coordinating repairs.
  • Managing lab supplies, biohazardous/chemical waste, and safety compliance (including SDS documentation).
  • Supporting biological and chemical safety at BRDG Park.
  • Collaborating with faculty, students, interns, and staff.

What You'll Do

Lab Operations and Material Preparation

Prepare, package, transport, and reintegrate laboratory materials for biotech courses and trainings, both on-site and off-site.

Troubleshoot and resolve issues with labs, reagents, kits, equipment, and instrumentation.

Maintain and coordinate repairs for CPLS equipment and instrumentation.

Inventory and Safety Management

Manage lab supplies inventory, ordering, and receiving.

Oversee biohazardous and chemical waste disposal and ensure compliance with safety regulations.

Maintain biological and chemical safety standards at BRDG Park and ensure proper documentation, including SDS.

Collaboration and Support

Interface with faculty, students, interns, CPLS staff, and other College departments to support activities and events.

Assist students in achieving educational goals through paraprofessional support.

Orient new instructors and provide information about College and departmental policies and procedures.

Administrative and Reporting Tasks

Prepare forms, charts, and generate reports on lab and operational activities.

Administer, grade, and record placement tests, and answer related questions.

Attend meetings, workshops, and special classes, serving on departmental committees as needed.

Supervision and Training

Train and assign work to student assistants.

Additional Responsibilities

Service audio-visual equipment as needed.

Provide College-related information to students, including details about job openings and opportunities.

Occasionally visit local high schools to share College resources and programs.

Perform other duties as assigned to support CPLS and STLCC initiatives.

Education, Experience, And Other Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent and over one (1) year of relevant full-time experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Availability 24/7 to emergency situations affecting key laboratory operations such as power outages and cold storage malfunctions.
  • Ability to communicate with instructors during day, evening, and Saturday class times.
  • Ability to perform significant physical work in a laboratory setting.
