By joining this team, you will play a critical role in supporting Veterans, their families and the office team by managing and distributing vital information. An Information Specialist ensures Veterans, and their families receive timely and accurate support while helping the office operate efficiently. Attention to detail and customer service skills are essential in providing high-quality assistance.
We have one (1) full-time Hibbing area position available.
The successful candidate will:
- Maintain a high level of confidentiality.
- Accurately prioritize day-to-day workloads.
- Organize and maintain records including service-related documents, benefits applications, and correspondence.
- Ensure secure and accurate data entry into office databases.
- Assist Veterans and their families in understanding initial guidance on eligibility requirements and necessary documentation for benefits.
- Direct individuals to the appropriate staff or external resources for further assistance.
- Support the office with a high volume of walk-ins and phone calls as well as respond to emails, and handle general inquiries from Veterans, their families, and community members.
- Disseminate updates on new policies, programs, or events relevant to the Veteran community.
- Support Veterans Service Officers by preparing paperwork, scheduling appointments, and managing workflow.
- Generate reports or summaries for office operations.
- Perform additional duties as assigned
This position is part of the Civil Service Basic Unit Employees Collective Bargaining Agreement represented by Council 5 of AFSCME.

Selection Process
- Permanent status as an Information Specialist I or Office Assistant; OR three (3) years full-time paid verifiable experience in a clerical support position.
- Demonstrated ability to operate personal computer-based systems.
- Proficiency, as defined by the Civil Service Commission, in operating word processing software.
- Ability to type from clear copy at a rate of 40 w.p.m./net.
