Our ideal candidate is someone who will connect the community to our resources to further our primary mission as a customer-centered public library providing vital services to the people of St. Louis.
The Information Specialist is enthusiastic, patient, and committed to providing excellent customer service and is comfortable working with the public and providing technology-related assistance.
In this role you will:
- Assist customers with library card registration and checking out and returning library materials.
- Aid in preparation, delivery, and receipt of Library materials; receive payment from customers.
- Provide technology assistance to customers with Library equipment.
- Help with reference and readers’ advisory questions for customers via face-to-face and telephone interactions
You will need to be:
- Friendly, patient, and able to build relationships at all levels.
- Able to see the big picture and promote consistency and excellence of service.
- Capable of effectively presenting information and responding to questions from customers and staff
- Flexible, positive, and willing to work with staff and colleagues to successfully overcome challenges.
Organized, detail-oriented, and able to work with competing tasks and priorities.
You will need to have:
- Flexible availability.
- At least six months of customer service-related experience, or an associate’s degree, or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school.
- Strong communication, writing, and organizational skills.
- Ability to learn and use technology as the Library continues to evolve

Hours for this position are:
Hours vary Monday-Sunday. Shifts will be in 4 or 8-hour increments. Candidates will work a minimum of one 4-hour shift per pay period. The Subpool assists in covering all 15 locations and hours are subject to change according to organizational needs.
