The St. Louis Public Library’s Buder Branch is seeking a Youth Services Assistant. This position will provide individual assistance and homework help to young customers, as well as implement key Library initiatives like 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten and Summer Challenge. This position advances the Library's mission by ensuring that all young people who visit the Library feel welcomed and supported.
In this role you will:
Ensure that youth and caregivers who visit the Library feel welcomed, have a positive experience, and find resources that meet their needs.- Assist in the facilitation of regularly scheduled youth programming activities, including programs and camps.
- Promote and implement key Library programs like 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten and Operation Food Search meals.
- Read with children and help with their homework.
- Support with daily circulation tasks.
You will need to be:
Friendly, outgoing, and able to work with children and their caregivers.- Comfortable providing homework support to children of all ages
- Able to supervise children and teen use of the Library, including setting boundaries and redirecting children and teens as needed
Comfortable supporting with group activities
You will need to have:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Experience working with children in a professional setting
- Strong communication, writing, and speaking skills
- Comfort with using and learning new technology as the Library continues to evolve.

Thursday 9:00 am -1:00 pm, Fridays and Saturdays 8:40 am - 5:10 pm, hours subject to change.
About Buder Library:
- Originally built in 1922. Buder Library has moved twice since its original location.
- Housed in a large building with 4 levels totalling 40,000 square feet
- Collection size is 80,000 items (includes juvenile and adult materials)
- 1 computer lab (holds 10 computers and one copier)
- 3 meeting rooms (one auditorium, one smaller conference room, and a multipurpose room)

Buder is part of the St. Louis Hills neighborhood, a dynamic and busy neighborhood situated in the southwest area of St. Louis. In 2023, Buder celebrated its 25-year anniversary in the current location which is surrounded by a thriving retail scene as well as numerous restaurants. The neighborhood is very family oriented with a large number of families with young children and an increasingly multicultural population.
