The St. Louis Symphony Orchestra is offering several part-time Usher opportunities as part of our Guest Experience team. Our Ushers are a vital part of the SLSO guest experience. Responsibilities consist of providing excellent customer service to all guests inside the auditorium, including welcoming, scanning tickets, distributing programs, providing basic information about the venue, assisting patrons with disabilities, seating, ensuring SLSO policy compliance inside the hall, and overseeing the general safety and satisfaction of guests.
Applicants must have recurring availability on Friday / Saturday evenings and Sunday afternoons. Typical shifts are 5 : 30pm - 10 : 00pm on Friday / Saturdays and 1 : 00-5 : 30pm on Sundays. Additional daytime availability during the work week for a small number of performances during the season (Friday mornings and occasional other days, approximately 15-20 total throughout the course of a season) is a plus.
Due to ongoing renovations at Powell Hall, concerts during the 24 / 25 season will be held primarily at Stifel Theatre and Touhill Performing Arts Center at UMSL. Once returning to the venue in September 2025, events almost exclusively take place in Powell Hall and other spaces at the Jack C. Taylor Music Center.
Starting pay for this position is $14.00 per hour (4-hour minimum). Ushers report to the Front of House Operations Manager.
Requirements :
- Friendly, approachable demeanor and a passion for customer service
- Minimum 2 years customer service, retail, or other experience working with the public and / or large groups
- Participation in SLSO’s front of house (usher) and emergency response training programs on an annual basis
- Ability to resolve conflicts calmly and enforce the policies of the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra
- High level of dependability and reliable transportation
- Appreciation of classical music a plus
- Ability to stand, walk and traverse ramps / stairs for periods of at least two hours
- Completed background check
