Position Overview: The Drafting Technician is responsible for preparing detailed technical drawings and plans for civil engineering projects. The role involves using computer-aided design (CAD) software to produce precise, high-quality drafts that are essential for construction and engineering work.
Key Responsibilities:
Technical Drafting:
Indoor Office Environment: Work is primarily conducted in a climate-controlled office setting. Occasionally requires attending meetings and events outdoors in the elements in various locations throughout the county.
Heavy Computer Use: The role requires prolonged periods of sitting and extensive use of computers and other office equipment, which may lead to eye strain and repetitive motion injuries.
Collaborative Workspace: Employees may frequently engage in meetings and teamwork, requiring effective communication in shared spaces.
Limited Physical Activity: The position involves minimal physical exertion, primarily consisting of desk work, although occasional movement within the office may be required.
Lighting and Noise Levels: Employees will work under standard office lighting and may experience moderate noise levels from office equipment and conversations.

Technical Drafting:
- Create detailed 2D and 3D drawings of civil engineering projects, such as roads, drainage systems, bridges, utilities, and land development plans.
- Use industry-standard CAD software (AutoCAD, Civil 3D, MicroStation) to prepare designs, site plans, elevations, cross-sections, and other technical drawings.
- Work closely with civil engineers, surveyors, and project managers to interpret design concepts, project requirements, and specifications.
- Liaise with other project team members, including contractors, surveyors, and architects, to ensure consistency and accuracy in project designs and execution.
- Revise and update drawings based on feedback from engineers or other project team members.
- Ensure changes are accurately reflected in the final documentation.
- Ensure all technical drawings comply with civil engineering standards, codes, and regulations, including zoning laws, safety codes, and environmental guidelines.
- Identify and resolve design issues, making adjustments to the drawings and plans as required to address potential problems or conflicts.
- Organize and maintain project files, ensuring that all drafts, revisions, and final designs are stored properly and accessible for future reference.
- Assist in the preparation of project proposals, construction documents, and reports by providing accurate design visuals and technical details.
- Assist in site surveys when needed, to obtain measurements and field data required for accurate drafting.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 10 pounds occasionally.

- Associate’s degree or technical certification in Computer Aided Drafting and Design or a related field.
- Three (3) years of experience in a civil engineering drafting or a related role.
- Strong knowledge of CAD software and Geographic Information Systems (GIS).
- Familiarity with civil engineering principles, standards, and practices, including knowledge of construction drawings, land surveys, and infrastructure design.
- High level of precision and accuracy to ensure drawings are error-free and meet engineering specifications.
- Ability to resolve issues arising during the drafting process, working closely with engineers to find solutions.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills to collaborate with team members and interpret project requirements.
- Strong organizational skills to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines effectively.
