Position Overview: The Plans Examiner performs technical work examining building plans to ensure compliance with the Florida Building Code, and any additional applicable codes and ordinances. This role involves reviewing construction plans, and providing guidance to building owners, contractors, and the public to maintain adherence to applicable building standards.

County employees are considered essential personnel in providing and continuing services to our community during and following a disaster, such as a hurricane, or in other emergency situations. As a requirement of County employment, County employees are subject to being required to remain at work during an event, respond to a recall immediately following an event and/or immediately reporting to work when an all clear is declared by the County Administrator. During these types of events, County employees may temporarily be assigned to work and perform duties outside the normal scope of their position, location, and work schedule to fit the needs of the County and its citizens.

Review plans and specifications for new construction, and existing structures, and provide recommendations regarding compliance with relevant codes. - Building Code Inquiries:
Respond to inquiries regarding building code requirements and provide guidance to ensure understanding and compliance. - Field Inspections:
Perform field inspections as necessary to clarify issues or ensure construction aligns with approved plans and codes. - Compliance Monitoring:
Inspect buildings under construction to verify adherence to Building Code Requirements and identify potential violations or defects.

- Driving in heavy traffic and varying weather conditions.
- Exposure to construction industry hazards such as falling objects, hard hat areas, and uneven surfaces.
- Duties may require work in both climate-controlled indoor environments and outdoor locations exposed to varying weather conditions.
- The position may require working from ladders, scaffolding, or other elevated surfaces.

- Graduation from high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma.
- Four (4) years of responsible, verifiable, experience in the construction field.
- Understanding of building codes, standards, and related laws and ordinances.
- Familiarity with various building construction materials, methods, and construction stages.
- Proficient in reading and interpreting construction plans, specifications, and blueprints.
- Ability to detect plan deficiencies for compliance with the Florida Building Code, and any other applicable codes and standards.
- Strong communication skills for consulting with building owners, contractors, and the public.
- Capacity to conduct field inspections and make determinations on-site.
- Valid Florida Driver's License with a good driving record.
- Valid Standard Building Plans Examiner Certification (or ability to obtain within 12 months of employment) per F.S. 468.607-609.
