Position Overview: This skilled journeyman-level position requires expertise in plumbing and other pipe systems, specifically for high-security environments such as the Jail and Courts systems. The role is responsible for leading plumbing repairs, installations, and maintenance activities.
Key Responsibilities:
Plumbing Installation and Repairs:
Decision Making: Make timely decisions on the job, especially in high-pressure situations, such as during emergencies or complex installations.
Team Supervision: Ability to supervise and mentor junior plumbers, apprentices, and other workers on the job site, ensuring safe and effective work practices.
Emergency Response and Safety Compliance: Respond to emergency plumbing issues and be available for on-call duties 24/7 as assigned. Work in high-stress, high-security environments with a need for special safety precautions, including the use of protective equipment.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Ability to use both hands and fingers, good hand/eye coordination, and the capacity to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS AND WORK HAZARDS: Comfortable working indoors and outdoors, including climbing ladders and frequent standing. Required to use safety glasses, ear protection, and protective clothing/equipment when necessary.

- Lead the repair and replacement of residential, commercial, and industrial plumbing fixtures.
- Perform maintenance on and repair broken water lines, sewer lines, drains, commode water closets, and sink drains.
- Install and repair shower valves, shutoff valves, water fountains, and mixing valves.
- Lead the rough-in of new construction projects and design/renovate plumbing systems.
- Troubleshoot and repair electronic plumbing systems in the Jail and Courts systems.
- Lead and supervise subordinate maintenance mechanics, ensuring proper scheduling and work processes.
- Monitor the progress and quality of work by outside contractors when necessary.
- Prepare reports, sketches, and material requests for plumbing projects.
- Recommend specific maintenance projects and work requirements.

- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Five (5) years of journeyman-level experience in plumbing, including experience in modern building maintenance practices, methods, and procedures.
- Current Florida County Plumbing Journeyman's License.
- Knowledge of Hydraulics related to flow rates, pipe sizes, and pressures.
- Strong leadership and supervisory skills to manage subordinate workers.
- Ability to troubleshoot and repair electronic plumbing systems.
- Effective communication skills for working with both team members and outside contractors.
- Experience working in or around correctional environments with inmates.
- Valid Florida Driver's License with a good driving record.
- The ability to pass a thorough background check.
