Description
This position assists various types of customers with the processing of a broad range of cases including small claims, evictions, traffic, criminal, and recording-related functions. The Deputy Clerk will work with the general public, Judges, Hearing Officers, attorneys, and mediators. Must demonstrate exceptional customer service skills during face-to-face transactions. This position fulfills a primarily front-line customer service role.
Examples of Duties
- Learn small claims, county civil and traffic, criminal payment plans, and recording functions.
- Answer telephones and assist the public for small claims, county civil, traffic, and recording.
- Assist customers with filing of new cases which include computer input of customer information.
- Assist customers with passports.
- General filing on a daily basis.
- Responsible for cashiering, accepting telephone payments, establishing payment plans, and balancing daily.
- Schedule hearings, prepare court calendars and attend court.
- Process defaults and court paperwork.
- Prepare summons and basic Orders (generally through letter merge)
- Processes and maintains court documentation within a timely fashion which includes motions, dispositions, notices of hearing and preparation of subpoenas.
- Assist with all aspects of Traffic functions such as citation intake processes, data entry, filing, court related tasks and communication with outside agencies.
- Maintain case files to ensure accuracy of information.
- Responsible for picking up, processing, and distributing incoming and outgoing mail.
- Faxing, scanning, and emailing correspondence as needed.
- Responsible for monitoring the department's email account and fax communication.
- Support organizational goals and values.
- Assists other departments with overflow work and performs other related duties as assigned.
Typical Qualifications
Associate's degree from an accredited college or university in Paralegal Studies, Criminal Justice, or a related field.
Professional experience in a local or state government agency, within a department that works directly with or alongside the court system.

While performing the duties of this job, the DC is regularly required to stand; walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel and talk or hear.
