Position Summary
St. Luke’s Episcopal School seeks a dedicated and dynamic Upper Elementary English Language Arts (ELA) Teacher to join our faculty. This educator will be responsible for delivering a rigorous, engaging, and developmentally appropriate ELA curriculum to upper elementary students, fostering a love of reading, writing, and critical thinking. The ideal candidate will be passionate about literacy instruction, committed to student growth, and enthusiastic about collaborating with colleagues to create a vibrant and supportive learning environment.

- Plan and implement a comprehensive ELA curriculum aligned with best practices in literacy instruction and the school’s mission.
- Foster a love of reading and writing by incorporating diverse literature, writing workshops, and engaging class discussions.
- Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of all learners, using a variety of teaching strategies and assessment tools.
- Guide students in developing strong communication skills, including reading comprehension, analytical writing, grammar, and vocabulary.
- Integrate technology and innovative teaching methods to enhance learning experiences.
- Create a classroom environment that promotes critical thinking, creativity, and collaboration.
- Communicate regularly with parents, providing updates on student progress and partnering to support academic and social-emotional development.
- Collaborate with colleagues in cross-curricular planning and interdisciplinary projects.
- Participate in faculty meetings, professional development opportunities, and school events.
- Support and uphold the mission, values, and Episcopal identity of St. Luke’s Episcopal School.
- Bachelor’s degree in Education, English, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
- Teaching certification and/or experience in upper elementary or middle school ELA instruction.
- Knowledge of best practices in literacy instruction, including phonics, reading comprehension strategies, and writing workshop models.
- Strong classroom management skills and a passion for student-centered learning.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- A commitment to professional growth and continuous learning.
- Willingness to engage in the broader life of the school community.
- An understanding of or appreciation for an Episcopal school community.
