The Billing Clerk is responsible for accurate and timely preparation of accounts so that they can be submitted to third-party carriers, intermediaries, and guarantors in accordance with hospital and policy and billing requirements/regulations. Responsible for assisting in the management of accounts receivable while ensuring the maximization of the insurance payment. Handles all inquires on a timely basis according to hospital written procedures. JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Processes claims within assigned responsibility in a timely and efficient manner, performing all associated duties in order to ensure completeness and correctness of all claim information, facilitating maximum reimbursement: Analyzes, updates, and corrects claims data according to established procedure, Inputs data accurately, efficiently and consistently, Performs work as scheduled prioritizing as required for maximum cash flow, demonstrates thorough knowledge of third-party payers’ claims requirements, computer capabilities as related to claims production, and dental records input as they affect claims. Handles phone, mail, and personal inquires from and regarding patient accounts: Assists each person promptly, efficiently and courteously, Follows through on all issues identified as requiring action as a result of inquiry, Performs duties with a minimum of supervision; exhibits innovation and good judgment as well as thorough knowledge of ethical and legal billing procedures. Performs related business office responsibilities as assigned: Follows hospital and department policies and procedures, Observes confidentiality in all matters, Maintains all documentation and records in accordance with federal and state regulations, Maintains courteous and professional relations with other departments and/or employees. Takes active role in facilitation team approach to functions within the department: Attends departmental meetings, Actively participates as a team member in resolution of problems as they are identified, Analyzes current procedures, bringing suggestions for improvement to the attention of team members and supervisor for consideration. Consistently conveys a professional appearance. Knowledge of complying with Federal and State law and private payer health care program requirements as well as the hospital’s ethical and business policies. PHYSICAL AND SENSORY REQUIREMENTS: Sitting for up to 8 hours per day, 4 hours at a time. Continuously fingering and handling for data entry, typing, etc., and occasional twisting and turning. Uses upper extremities for occasional lifting and carrying of up to 10 lbs. Frequently stoops, bends, or reaches above shoulder level to retrieve files. Hearing as it relates to normal conversation and telephone. Seeing as it relates to general vision. Visual monotony when reading reports and reviewing computer screens. EDUCATION: High School Diploma or equivalent. Must be able to speak, read and write English. Bachelor’s degree preferred. TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: Experience with third party billing in a dental office or similar medical facility or physicians office is preferred.
