St. Madeleine Sophie’s Center
HOURS: Monday - Friday: 6:00 am – 9:00 am and 1:30 pm – 4:30 pm
RESPONSIBLE TO: Transportation Manager
BASIC FUNCTIONS: Under the direct supervision of the Transportation Coordinator/Manager. Responsible for transporting program clients or Organization personnel to location(s), as necessary.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Responsible for safely transporting program clients or Organization personnel to location(s) as necessary with great sensitivity to clients’ needs.
- Responsible for driving vehicles from individual or central loading area to social services or rehabilitation center, training location, job site, or other destinations according to assigned schedule.
- Responsible for assisting disabled passengers into and out of the vehicle as needed.
- Secure passengers’ wheelchairs to restraining devices to stabilize wheelchairs during trips.
- Operate radio or similar device to communicate with Base station or other vehicles to report disruption of service.
- Pre-trip vehicle check as required and needed.
- Clean and service vehicles with fuel, lubricants, and accessories.
- Keep all assigned records of trips and behaviors of passengers.
- Perform other duties when not driving, such as vehicle cleaning and other transportation tasks assigned by the Transportation Coordinator or your direct supervisor.
REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES:
- Strong emphasis on customer service is required.
- Ability to exhibit professionalism, courtesy, and flexibility when working with students and families on all assigned duties.
- Knowledge of Zoom and Microsoft Teams.
- Effective communication skills.
- Demonstrate ability to multi-task, prioritize, and manage time effectively.
- Ability to deal with constant change in a fast-paced setting.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
This classification does not formally supervise support staff currently.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS:
The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to twenty-five pounds, frequently lift and/or move fifty pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to seventy-five pounds. Specific vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus are required. WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts and is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles. The employee occasionally works in outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
QUALIFICATIONS:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. - Current Class B driver's license with passenger endorsements is required.
- VDDP is required but will be sponsored if needed
- Minimum of six months (6) experience in social services or related field preferred.
- Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug test.
- Must complete a pre-employment health screening/TB test.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain clearance for required criminal records.
- Valid CA Driver License and reliable transportation.
- Clean DMV report.
- Must be able to complete CPR and First Aid training during the orientation process and update certification annually.
- Sensitivity to elders and volunteers is essential.
- Must possess good oral communication and listening skills. Working knowledge and efficiency with the computer and telephone is required.
- Able to work on a schedule that includes occasional evenings and weekends and be available for one call after hours one week per month.
- Must be able to read, write, and understand English.
- Ability to communicate effectively in written form.
- Ability to deal with constant change in a fast-paced setting.
- Must be able to pass random drug and alcohol testing.
- Must conform to applicable laws, rules, and regulations pertaining to Title 17 and Title 22 of the State of California.
