The Breakthrough San Juan Capistrano College Completion Manager under direction of the Breakthrough San Juan Capistrano Director plays the lead role in supporting Breakthrough SJC students from 12th grade through college graduation. For high school seniors, the primary focus is on college applications, enrollment, and financial aid processes. For college students, the primary focus is on matriculation, ongoing guidance, differentiated support systems, retention and graduation.

12th Grade Responsibilities:

Develop and execute college completion programming for 12th grade students through college graduation by providing one-on-one and group advising to meet A-G requirements, extracurricular involvement and explore post-secondary education options.

Guide 12th grade students through the completion of college applications for various higher education institutions, ensuring they meet all deadlines and requirements.

Assist students in crafting compelling personal statements and supplemental essays, providing editing and feedback to ensure college applications are competitive and tailored to each student’s desired college.

Facilitate one-on-one student and parent conferences to review college acceptances, financial aid award letters, and help students finalize their college decision.

Track and maintain detailed records of college applications, acceptances, and enrollment commitments in Salesforce, and provide reports to the Director on a regular basis.

Assist students and families with the completion of the FAFSA, California Dream Act, or CSS Profile, offering support throughout the financial aid application process, including navigating requirements and meeting critical deadlines.

Develop and maintain a comprehensive list of diverse scholarship opportunities and fly-in programs by providing guidance on application processes, deadlines, and funding options.

Support family engagement events, 12th grade student and parent meetings, holiday potlucks, end-of-year senior celebrations, and additional workshops.

College Completion Responsibilities:

Provide personalized support and guidance to college students by utilizing Salesforce to to track student progress, persistence, retention, and graduation rates to assess outcomes and inform ongoing support strategies.

Host office hours (in-person and virtual) to support college students with challenges by connecting them to campus resources.

Manage The College Fund ensuring accurate and timely distribution of financial support.

Guide college students in navigating transfer pathways from community colleges to four- year institutions.

Empower college students to develop essential skills in time management, self-advocacy, and financial literacy, strengthening their independence and success in college.

Monitor college student progress and provide early intervention for students facing academic or personal challenges, ensuring sustained retention and on-time college graduation

Support college transitions, such as facilitating BT Summer Bridge program, orientation, class registration, housing, and connecting students to campus resources.

General Responsibilities:

Research, maintain, and share a database of local, national, and virtual summer enrichment programs.

Build and maintain trusting relationships with students and families, through open, consistent communication demonstrating sensitivity to the unique needs of first-generation and low-income students.

Cultivate relationships and collaboration with college admissions and financial aid offices, and other partners to advocate for students to receive the necessary support to succeed.

Collaborate with the Director to ensure programming aligns with the BTSJC Strategic Plan by actively engaging in team meetings, check-ins, and organizational initiatives.

Design and administer surveys to collect feedback from students and families for program improvement.

Manage program communications, social media platforms and marketing by developing and distributing newsletter flyers, invitations, and reminders to promote programming and highlight student achievements and key.

Support the management and supervision of the middle school summer program.

Attend professional training sessions, to enhance expertise in college counseling and financial aid.

Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor’s degree in education, psychology or a related field; masters degree preferred.

Minimum of 3-5 years experience in college access readiness, college admissions processes, financial aid, and higher education support.

Strong organizational, communication, and data management skills.

Ability to build relationships with diverse stakeholders, including students, families, and external partners.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Bilingual in Spanish and English.

Familiarity with needs in higher education of first-generation, low income, underrepresented students.

Strong knowledge of college access programs and high school academic requirements.

Experience designing and delivering workshops, presentations, and group activities.

Proficiency in managing data systems and tracking student outcomes.
