Job Description
St. Mark’s Child Care and Preschool in Washington, IL is seeking a full time DCFS qualified teacher or teacher's assistant to join our 2/3 year old classroom. We are open 7:30am to 5pm Monday through Friday. Candidates must be able to work any hours in that time frame. Top candidates will have a strong desire to help children develop to their fullest potential, fostering the growth and development of the whole child– the physical, intellectual, social, emotional, and spiritual.
Skills and Abilities:
- Early Child Development knowledge and experience.
- Good communication, problem solving, and priority setting skills as well as maintaining an overall positive and professional attitude /disposition.
- Ability to make decisions on behalf of children and protect their well-being.
- Must be able to manage confidential information.
- All employees, regardless of position, serve as role models for children . Therefore, each employee must at all times be emotionally stable and able to function effectively with children and adults.
Requirements of Work:
- Must meet minimal education, health, and experience requirements as set forth by the Illinois Department of Child and Family Services.
- Must meet minimum Health Department Food Service Requirements.
- Must maintain certification in CPR and First Aid.

Physical Requirements:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to:
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds
- Bending and twisting as necessary to properly care for children
- Often required to stand and sit; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, bend, squat, or crawl
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
- Frequent exposure to cleaning solutions
- Exposure to outdoor elements as weather permits.
Responsibilities
- Manage classroom activities, ensuring a safe and nurturing environment for all students.
- Communicate effectively with parents and guardians regarding children's progress and behavior
- Monitor and support children's social and emotional growth through positive reinforcement.
Continuing Education:
- Must complete 15 hours of continuing education each year
- Gateway membership
Education Requirements:
- DCFS Teacher Qualifications - 60 hours of college credit with 6 hours in courses related directly to child care and/or child development or 30 hours of college credit with 6 hours in courses related directly to child care and/or child development and 1 year of experience, or CDA.
- DCFS Teacher's Assistant Qualifications - High School Diploma or GED.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $15.00 - $17.00 per hour
Expected hours: 35 – 40 per week
